Darrell DePue, 87 of Nixa, MO, formerly of Adel, passed away Tuesday, October 10 with family by his side. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 16 at Panther Creek Church of the Brethren near Adel with burial at Church of the Brethren Cemetery at Panther Creek. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to services. Darrell Beveridge DePue was born June 27th, 1930 to Joseph and Oma DePue in Des Moines, Iowa. He was part of a happy family and had four siblings, all of whom are still living. Neil Arnold DePue (Idaho Falls, ID), Lowell Dewayne DePue (Dallas, TX), Robin Ghormley (Des Moines, IA), and Peter Brent DePue (Yuma, AZ). At the age of five, Darrell moved with the family to Adel, IA where he lived for the majority of his life, until moving to Nixa, MO on February 24, 2017 to be near his daughter Peggy and her family. Darrell graduated from Adel High School in 1949 and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years. On August 30th, 1952, he married Janice Mary Rhoten, and to that union, three children were born: Daniel (Carol Nevitt-Nordeen) DePue, Peggy (William) Niebuhr, and James (Josie Terrones) DePue. Darrell and Janice have eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. In 1970, they moved to their new home built by family on the corner of the Mary Rhoten farm . In Darrell’s early adult years, he had several occupations, and enjoyed farming, welding in his shop, and doing work for his neighbors on the side. After retiring at the age of 63 from Dallas County Hospital as their Plant and Grounds Director, he drove a school bus for several years. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and his son Daniel (1996). He was looking forward to a grand reunion with his son in Heaven. Darrell enjoyed recording music in his basement studio, his pick-up truck, traveling out west and, especially, camping in the mountains with family. Most of all, this dad and grandfather enjoyed being with his family, from the oldest to the youngest. He was very proud of them all. The family is very thankful to our Lord for the long life (87 years) of our husband, dad, and grandpa. God has been so good to us. Thank you to all our dear friends now and over the years. The family asks that all memorial donations be made to Ozarks Teen Challenge in Branson West, MO. Online condolences may be left on this site.
