Darrell Bolin

Darrell Marquette Bolin passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at 10:15 p.m. at his home in Kennybrook Village, Grimes, Iowa. He was 98 years old. Darrell was born on August 4, 1921, to Adlai Owen Bolin and Sarah Flossie (Knight) Bolin on the family farm near Clarksville, Iowa. He joined an older brother, Reed, and seven years later had a younger brother, Neil. Darrell attended country school and graduated from Clarksville High School in 1938. Following graduation, Darrell continued to work on the family farm. On August 11, 1942, Darrell was joined in marriage to Lillian Marie Marsh. Darrell and Lillian had two children, Charlotte Marie and John Marquette. Darrell enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard on November 30, 1942 to serve our country during World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 18, 1946. Following his service time, Darrell and Lillian moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, where he found employment working for the local power company. Darrell’s career with power companies took him and his family from Shenandoah to Sac City, to Oskaloosa, and finally to Council Bluffs, Iowa. He retired from Iowa Power and Light in 1983. In 1986 he and Lillian moved to George, Iowa. They also enjoyed wintering in Zephyrhills, Florida for a number of years. After retirement from the power company, Darrell assisted his son John with his work at the funeral homes in George and Sheldon, Iowa. In 2011, Darrell moved to Kennybrook Village in Grimes, Iowa. Darrell is survived by his brother Neil Bolin, his daughter Charlotte Sheldon, his daughter-in-law Joyce (Goodman) Bolin, his grandson Jason (Jackie) Bolin, three great grandchildren, Marcus, Janica, and Marquette Bolin, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adlai and Flossie Bolin, his brother Reed Bolin, his wife Lillian Bolin, his son-in-law Gerald Sheldon, and his son, John Bolin. Services will be held in celebration of his life at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Parrish Caldwell Funeral Home, Urbandale, Iowa. A military graveside service will be held the following Saturday, October 12, 2109, at Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville, Iowa at 2:00 p.m.
