Pittman and Vera "Tillie" Scheel Pittman at rural Cooper, Iowa and died at the Panora Care Center in Panora, Iowa on June 13, 2013. Darrell was 78. Darrell grew up on a farm in rural Cooper and attended the Cooper School. He played baseball for both the Jamaica and Cooper High Schools. Darrell had also tried out for the I-Cubs. He was a proud lifelong resident of the Cooper-Jamaica area. Darrell was honorably discharged from the Navy Reserves January 28, 1961. He had served on an aircraft carrier. In 1953 he married Evona Hoffman and the couple had three children: Doug, Lori and Julie. The family enjoyed horses and their membership in the Greene County Saddle Club. Darrell was a 4-H leader for many years. The couple later divorced after twenty-five years of marriage. On April 14, 1985 Darrell married Becky Abbas. They enjoyed 28 years of marriage before his death. Until moving into Jamaica, Darrell lived within three miles of his childhood home near Cooper. As a young boy he would sit by the road near the "Cooper Corner" where the road maintenance driver would stop and give him a nickel. Darrell enjoyed stock car racing and in earlier years worked on them with Eugene Garrity. He traveled extensively across the country with Becky over the years where she worked business trade shows and enjoyed gambling at various casinos. Darrell was a people person and never knew a stranger. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, Cooper Methodist Church and a member of the former Perry Moose Lodge. His love was farming and he completed 60 years of consecutive farming and driving truck before retiring. Darrell was a huge fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, son Doug, and his first wife, Evona. He is survived by his wife Becky of Jamaica, daughters Lori Ferguson (Jeff Johnston) of Jefferson, Julie Cooper (Jeff) of Grand Junction, Lynne Laney of Kansas City, and Laura Radebaugh (Curt) of Jamaica; 13 grandchildren; Matt Pittman (Wendy), Chad Ferguson (Traci); Brad Ferguson (Stephanie), Alan Ferguson, Tessa Weir (Matt), Amanda Mae Davis (Birton), Allison Hamilton (Johnny Dennis), Kaija Laney, Sean Laney, Vanessa McGuire (Tim), Jessica Radebaugh, Eric Radebaugh (Kelsey) and Alex Radebaugh; 22 great grandchildren , brother Dennis Pittman (LeeAnn) of Jamaica; and nephews, Daniel, Michael, and Ricky Pittman, other relatives and many friends.
