Darrell Pearson, 89, of Urbandale, Iowa passed away on September 26, after a long and well loved life. He will be forever loved and forever remembered. Darrell Dean Pearson was born to Francis and Marie (Neidt) Pearson, at home on June 3, 1932 in Leon, IA. He graduated from Leon High School in 1951. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. Darrell married Fran (Griffin) on June 2, 1962 in Adair, IA and were blessed with two children, Tom and Michelle. Darrell was a mail handler at the United States Post Office for many years and retired in 1999. He loved his family more than anything in this world. He said that being married to Fran was like celebrating Christmas every day. He was the absolute best husband, father, grandpa, and papa. In addition to loving his family, he also enjoyed tinkering in his garage, tending to his home, and most of all family trips to Walt Disney World. Darrell was so proud to have been selected for the Central Iowa Korean War Honor Flight, so on September 30, 2014 Darrell went on a trip of a lifetime to Washington, D.C. Darrell joins his parents; baby sister Linda; sister Sherri Olson, brother-in-law Harold Overton, and nephews Ben and Bart Olson in Heaven. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Fran; his children Tom (Millie) Pearson of Wheat Ridge, CO; Michelle Pearson of Grimes; granddaughter Megan (Bryan) Brackemyer of Van Meter; step-granddaughters Terri (Jim) Burkholder of Lenexa, KS; Amber Pearson of Wheat Ridge, CO; great-grandsons Duke and Hayden Brackemyer, and step-great-grandchildren Josh McDougal, and Alexis and Dylan Burkholder, sister Colleen Overton of Blue Earth, MN, and brother Doug (Deb) Pearson of VanBuren, AR. A rosary service will be held on Thursday, September 30th, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. with a visitation to follow from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory, 8201 Hickman Rd., Urbandale, IA 50322. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3663 66th St., Urbandale, IA 50322. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Pius X Church, St. Pius X School, or the Urbandale American Legion Post 663.
