Darvin Olson, 90, of Winterset, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023 at Azria Health in Winterset.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, May 8, 2023 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel, where family will greet friends prior, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m., at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Memorials in Darvin’s name may be directed to EveryStep Hospice in Winterset.
Darvin Dale Olson was born in Rake, Iowa on January 7, 1933 to Melvin and Mabel (Sabin) Olson. He graduated from Rake High School in 1951, married his high school sweetheart in October of 1952, and enlisted in the US Army in May of 1953. He served our country during the Korean War but ended up spending most of his deployment in Germany. Returning home from the service, he drove semis across the Midwest. He then took a job at the Rake Co-op where he worked his way up to manager. In 1974, he took the job of managing the Winterset Co-op until he retired in 1996. He came out of retirement twice, once to run the Ackley Co-op, and the second time to manage the Chariton Co-op. He was a member of the Winterset VFW and American Legion.
Darvin is now able to rest in peace and reunite with his wife, Avon, who passed six months ago, shortly after they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. He was heartbroken without her.
Darvin is survived by his sons, Kevin (Michelle) and Todd (Tracey); daughter, Kristi Mease; daughter-in-law, Marty Olson; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Avon; his son, Terry; his parents, Melvin and Mabel Olson; and great-great-grandson, Conner Norris.
