David L. Friday “Buckeye”, 76, of Lorimor died Friday, August 8, 2014 at his home near Lorimor. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 12th. at Ochiltree Funeral Services in Winterset. A visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, August 11th at the funeral home where family will be present to receive friends. Burial will be held at the Lorimor Cemetery following the funeral service. Memorials may be made to the family. David Larry Friday was born January 6, 1938 in Osceola, Iowa to Lyle Albert and Orpha Irene (Stroup) Friday. He served as a corporal in the United States Army from 1955 – 1958 where he was qualified as a sharp shooter. During his service, he served one year in Korea and two years on Japan. He married Christie Fay Flesher in Winterset on February 8, 1959. He lived nearly all of his life in the Lorimor area where he farmed the family farm. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Lions Club, and the Lorimor United Methodist Church. David also served his community as a 4-H Leader of the New Hope Boosters, a member of the Union County Sherriff’s Posse and as a member of the Union county Trustees. In addition to farming, Buckeye enjoyed his family, raising horses and cattle and doing word puzzles. He is survived by his wife Christie; a son, Ricky David (Juanita) Friday; two daughters, Kelly Renee (Alan) Weis of Afton, Iowa and Michelle Rene (Kenny) Nulph of Des Moines; ten grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Jane Miklus of Des Moines, Barbara Joan Loy of Winterset, and Karen Sue (John) Manning of Belvidere, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents.
