David Paul Deitrick, age 66, passed away peacefully on February 20th at Mercy Hospital. He was finally reunited with the love of his life, Mindy Deitrick, who passed away twenty-eight years ago from breast cancer. David was born on January 22nd 1959, in Des Moines to Bob and Anita Deitrick and has three beloved sisters, Lori Warden, Julie Leverett, and Kathy Johnson.

His children, Dustin, Brindlie, and Sadie, kept him going through life’s hardships. His grandchildren, Mindy, Cloey, Davin, Ivy and Asher were the apple of his eye. He loved being creative, making memories, drawing “scribble monsters,” and telling stories.

Davids children’s friends loved him like their own father. He loved them like his own. He always said: “Family takes care of Family,” and everyone was his family. Friends would often visit, staying up late, playing games, and having fun together. David always had a great sense of humor and made everyone laugh. He had such a love for music, David would make you sit and listen to a song whether you wanted to or not.

At the end of his life, David lived in Des Moines with his daughter Sadie and her husband Keith, his son-in-law and best friend. He helped take care of his youngest grandbaby, Asher, and their bond brought him so much joy.

David battled chronic pain and COPD for a very long time. Even with his health issues, he never stopped smiling and helping people. He did talk about going to heaven and prepared his kids for that day. His family wants to celebrate that he is no longer in his body suffering. His soul is free. David is finally at peace after fighting such a long battle, he is rejoicing in the light of God, reunited with his beautiful wife Mindy.
