David D Haney, (aka Dave or “Papa Bob” or “Icon”), a cherished individual known for his kind, loving, caring, and humorous personality, entered Heaven December 6, 2024. Born on September 4, 1941, Dave lived a life filled with tremendous passion and service towards others.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Donna Haney; his two daughters, Kathleen Haney (Kerry Scholer) and Teresa Nigro (Pete); four grandchildren, Taylor Nigro, Ariana Thorold (Barnaby), Anthony Nigro and Cade Nigro; his brother Gerald Haney; and many nieces and nephews, whose lives were greatly enriched by Dave’s presence. His departure leaves an unfillable void in their lives, yet they find comfort in the memories and everlasting love they shared.
Dave was an esteemed alumnus of Creighton Prep and Creighton University located in Omaha, NE. He moved to Des Moines, IA where he met his beloved wife, Donna Haney. They were married for 53 years and during that time together they created a faith-filled, perfect example of a family and a loving home for their children.
Dave worked for 33 years as a computer engineer for IBM, where he established a work environment full of fun. More importantly, he made life-long friendships that are still present today. He won numerous awards working for IBM before choosing to retire early in 1999 so he could spend all of his time with his grandchildren.
Dave was a faithful member of St. Anthony’s church for over 54 years. He was very active as a member of the Knights of Columbus, several church committees, multiple church fundraisers and every Monday counted tithes from weekend mass.
Dave was a shining example of how to think of others, a value that was central to his character. His life was marked by kindness, empathy, and capacity to bring joy to those around him.
He is our beloved and will be deeply missed.
Memorial Donations may be made directly to the family to be designated to one of David's favorite charities.
