David A. Pickar, 71, of Winterset, died Monday, January 23, 2006 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Janette Marie Pickar, two daughters, Becky Lynn Conner (David) of Winterset and Linda Lea Barker (Dan) also of Winterset, 5 brothers, Edwin Pickar of Woodbury, MN, Frances Pickar (Rose) of Minneapolis, MN, Dale Pickar (Karen) of Moorehead, MN, Jimmy Pickar (Linda) of Redfield, SD, and Darrell Pickar (Anne) of Warringhu, England; 4 sisters, Rita Johnson of Mound, MN, Helen Hovland (James) of Hopkins, MN, Betty Dailey (Larry) of Lake Charles, LA and Rose Bassett of Lagrange, IN; 3 grandchildren, Megan Marie Conner, Matthew David Conner and Maci Jade Barker all of Winterset. Dave was born March 16, 1934 in Wadena, Minnesota, the son of Paul Martin and Daisy May (Spore) Pickar. His marriage to Janette Marie Banks took place on December 28, 1956 at the Christian Church, in St. Charles, Iowa. As a young man Dave served in the United States Army during the Korean Police Action. Dave worked as a well driller for Ro-Banks Well Company for 28 years. He had also worked as a carpenter and farmer. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Dave loved hunting and fishing as well. He was also a member of the Water Well Association along with the Auction and Flea Market Circle. Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday where family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. January 26, 2006 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday January 27, 2006 at Ochiltree Funeral Service and Aftercare, where military honors will be preformed by the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 8142 & American Legion Post 184 both of Winterset. Memorial: He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gordon Pickar; a sister, Carol Ann Manning; a brother-in-law, Howard Johnson; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Pickar. Memorials may be directed to the family.
