David Sass

July 21, 1952 — September 8, 2015

David Charles Sass, 63, of Urbandale, IA, passed away Tuesday, September 8th 2015 after a short, sudden battle with cancer. A memorial gathering inviting family and friends to celebrate David's life will be held from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, September 12th 2015 at Caldwell Parish Funeral Home located at 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale, Iowa. David was born July 21st, 1952 in Perry, IA at Kings Daughters Hospital to parents Don Sass and Barb Schauppaugh who owned Schauppaugh Florist for 50 years. David was a graduate of Perry High School in 1970 and attended Perry Presbyterian Church while growing up. After high school he worked at Lauterbach Chevrolet before going to Missouri Valley Line Constructors Apprenticeship and Training to become an electrician. He worked as an outside electrical lineman and also taught classes for electrical apprenticeship before he started his career with MidAmerican Energy. It wasn't until then he found his career pursuit of happiness and became a transmission operator. David was also a member of Moose Lodge and the Elks. He met the love of his life, PJ Sass and they married on September 19th, 1992. David was a great Husband, Father and Papa; he loved his stepsons and granddaughters like they were his own and worked diligently to provide for his family. David is survived by his nieces Lori Matthaidas (Sass), Samantha Jarosz (Sass), nephews Josh and Matt Sass as well as his stepsons Adam Hadjis, Lucas Jones, grandchildren Lundyn and Taylyn Jones, and Harley and Alina Hadjis. He is preceded in death by his brother Bill Sass, parents Don and Barb Sass, granddaughter Gianna Hadjis and beloved wife PJ Sass. David's friends and family would like to thank all of the staff at Mercy Hospital and Manor Care as well as his neighborhood family and friends for taking care of things while he was away. David was best known for the endless amount information stored in his brain and his incredible ability to do anything he put his mind to. May his memory be eternal. We love you David!
