Deacon Patrick Leroy Kirkman

September 24, 1942 — June 2, 2021

Deacon Patrick LeRoy Kirkman was born on September 24, 1942 in Des Moines, IA to George and Vera (Jeri) Kirkman. He died on June 2, 2021 at age 78 1/2 from cancer. Pat served in the U. S. Army Airborne Infantry for 2 years stationed in an artic test center in Alaska, during the Vietnam era. He was a carpenter by trade and served 5 years as a Des Moines Fireman/EMT. Later he began his own construction company and went on to do property management for Iowa Network Services. On August 10, 1997 he was ordained a Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church where he served faithfully even after he retired active ministry. He is survived by his dog Max, Christine, his wife of 51 years; his 5 children: Ed Kirkman, Sandy Emberlin, Bill Kirkman, Jackie Sanger, Jim Kirkman and their families which includes 16 grandchildren and 2 great children. Pat was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister Ann and brother-in-law Joe Balducki, grandson Michael Emberlin and great grandson Ruger Lee. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church 5711 SW 9th, Des Moines, IA. Monday, June 7 at 10 a.m. Visitation Sunday, June 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a vigil service. Memorial contribution may be given to the family in his name.
