Deborah A. Sloss

Deborah Ann Sloss, daughter of William Francis "Willie" Nixon and Gwendolyn Julia Seivert, was born June 9, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa and died December 1, 2009 at her home in rural Perry, Iowa at the age of 56. Deb, as she was lovingly known, attended Assumption Catholic School and graduated from St. Joseph Academy (now Dowling Catholic H.S.) in 1972. She would later receive her B.S. degree from Iowa State University. Deb married Paul Lynn Sloss on July 24, 1976. They were parents of Richard, Kassie, Kaci, Kelsey and Kinsey. The couple lived their entire married lives in Perry. Deb had worked as a Resident Treatment Worker for the Woodward State Hospital School for 25 years. Deb loved being with her entire family and was a very loving mother and wife. She was known for her generosity and was very proud of her family. Being an avid writer, she loved journaling for her children. Deb had several short stories published. She also enjoyed BINGO and reading. Deb was preceded in death by her mother Gwen; brother William Francis "Frank" Nixon and sister Jane Nixon. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband Paul; son Richard Sloss of Perry; daughters: Kassie Sloss and husband John Maroney of Jacksonville, FL and their infant son Graham; Kaci Sloss of Des Moines; Kelsey Sloss and Kinsey Sloss both of Perry; father William "Willie" Nixon of Woodward; sisters: Bridget Nixon of Ankeny; Amy Nicol (Bobby) of Ankeny; Kate Battani (Brad) of Urbandale and Melinda Olson (Dave) of Omaha, NE; brothers David Nixon (Lori) of Woodward; Tim Nixon of Las Vegas, NV; Jace Nixon (Gina) of Madrid; and Joe Nixon (Kathy) of Granger. Deb is also survived by aunts and uncles: Mick Tiernan of Woodward; Jackie Schram of Creston; Jeri Horton (Roger) of Woodward; Clem Seivert (Janice) of Granger; and Gertrude Schulte, of Williamsburg, MO; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
