Delbert (Duff) Lawrence Countryman, 70, of Redfield, IA, died peacefully at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. He was born December 25, 1954 in Iowa City, IA, the son of Donald Wayne and Susie (Bainter) Countryman.
Delbert grew up in Redfield and attended Dexfield Community Schools. Even though he briefly lived in Stuart and Des Moines, he always considered Redfield home.
Delbert married Deborah LeFleur in1974. They later divorced.
Delbert was a member of the Redfield Historical Society and volunteered at the Redfield Museum sharing the history of Redfield with many who visited the museum and Old Settlers celebrations. “Duff” was also a geneology buff and could tell you “who was related to who” in Redfield, as well as searching out the forefathers of his own family.
Delbert enjoyed fishing and playing his guitar in many “jam” sessions in the Redfield and Stuart areas.
He was a devoted father and an awesome grandfather, loving each and every quirk of his grandchildren and children. He used his stubbornness to guide his grandchildren to be better.
Delbert served the military in the Air Force. He carried himself as such, sure of every answer he gave and if he didn’t know, he would find out and get back to you. He remained routine in meeting with his buddies, sharing drinks and playing darts. Delbert was accepting of most everyone and if he wasn’t, he surely let you know.
Delbert is survived by his children; Lori (Jeremy) Kirk, Heather (Jason) Monaghan, Tammie (Todd) Venne, Sheila (Tiffany) Countryman, Robert Kirk and step-daughter Susan Fox; 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; sister Beverley (Gary) Rosenbeck, brothers Raymond Countryman and David (Kara) Countryman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, D.Wayne and Susie Countryman.
His body was donated to science.
A celebration of life will be held 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., March 2, 2025, at the Redfield City Hall Community room.
