Dennis Allan Furne

Dennis Allan Furne, age 77, passed away at EveryStep Kavanagh House in Des Moines, IA on Thursday, February 23, 2023.

Dennis was born in Battle Creek, IA on September 7, 1945 by Edward and Ida Furne. He served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in September 1969. He was united in marriage to Elaine on August 5, 1967 at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, IA and enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Dennis was a hard worker at a young age and continued that work ethic throughout his life. He worked at NAPA Auto Parts for many years before starting Denny’s Standard, his own gas and service station in Atlantic, IA. As an entrepreneur, he had various other businesses like the Hawkeye Motel, rental properties and storage units.

Dennis and his wife enjoyed 23 years at their second home in Sun City West, AZ during the winter months and had many visitors over those years, including their friends and children. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing disc golf, indulging in all kinds of desserts, grocery shopping with his daughter on Saturday mornings, listening to music and videos on YouTube and managing stock market finances. He was a selfless person and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Elaine, and four children: Russell Furne, Andrew Furne (fiancé Christie Arntz), Chris Furne (wife Melissa) and Alanna Dern (husband Tyler). Grandchildren: Aric Furne (wife Paula), Abel Furne, Nicole Gent (husband Cale), Allison Furne (fiancé Grant Tenley), Grant Furne and Grace Furne. Great grandchildren: Beverly Haviland, Stella Haviland, Teddy Haviland, Genevieve Furne and Autumn Lee Furne.

A memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 811 Oak Street in Atlantic, IA on Saturday, February 25 at 11:00 am with a luncheon to follow at the church. For those unable to travel, the service will be recorded and posted to the church’s website.
