Dennis Dean "Denny” Hanes of Waukee, IA, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at Spurgeon Manor on July 7, 2021 in Dallas Center, Iowa at the age of 67. Denny was born on December 2, 1953 in Des Moines, IA to Norma and Joe Hanes. He graduated from Hoover High School in 1974 and eventually went on to receive a Certified Dietary Management degree from DMACC. He married Sally Ann Facto, his high school sweetheart, on October 11th, 1975. After briefly moving to Colorado, Denny and Sally moved back to Iowa and eventually settled in Waukee, where they raised their 3 children. Denny worked for Baker’s Cafeteria, owned Hanes Foodservice that served Plymouth Place and then worked as a Dietary Manager at several local nursing homes, retiring from Calvin Community in 2020. Denny was proud to be a fireman who impacted many lives for the Waukee Fire Department for 30 years, starting in 1985. Denny is survived by his wife, Sally (Facto) Hanes; children, Matthew Hanes (John Williams) of Chicago, IL, Sarah Mentele (Ryan) of Grimes, IA, and Becky Perdue (Jim) of Waukee, IA; brother, Doug Hanes (Marcia) of Aurora, CO; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Crandell (Jim Russell) of Urbandale, IA, Tony Montinguise of Urbandale, IA, Christopher Montinguise of Urbandale, IA, Jon Hanes (Sarah) of Aurora, CO, Amanda McBee (Ted) of Gunnison, CO; grandchildren, Evalyn, Conlin, Alana and Harper Mentele and Jordan and Chey Perdue. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norma and Joe Hanes of Des Moines, IA; brother, Richard (Diane) Hanes; and sister, Diana (Mike) Montinguise of Urbandale, IA. A visitation for Denny will be held Sunday, July 11th from 12:00pm until 1:00pm at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory, 8201 Hickman Rd, Urbandale, IA. A funeral service will be held Sunday, July 11th at 1:00pm at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, with Jim Russell officiating the ceremony.
