Dennis O. Kanealy

Mr. Kanealy, 73, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Dennis O'Brien Kanealy, son of Donald John Kanealy and Edna Bailey Kanealy, was born April 3, 1938 in Perry, Iowa and died July 19, 2011 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 73. Dennis lived in Perry all of his life, living most of those years in the same house. He graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1957. Dennis worked for the Jenkins Patterson car dealership and then for Salocker Chrysler-Plymouth dealership. While working there, he started his long career at the Perry Chief as a pressman. He retired in 2003 after 40 years of service. He married Teresa Carol Barr August 14, 1967 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry. They were blessed with two sons, Joshua O'Brien and Jacob John who died when only two days old. Dennis enjoyed fishing, bowling at Perry Bowl on leagues and also with Teresa on couples' leagues. His love of car racing took him yearly to the Indianapolis 500. Dennis enjoyed traveling, making many trips to the Arch at Kearney, NE and to the Black Hills. He enjoyed going to Lake Okoboji and to the Clay County Fair in Spencer. Dennis was a faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was eager to help in any way he could. He was an excellent ticket salesman for the church's Fall Festival. In addition to his precious son, Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Teresa on May 28, 2010, father-in-law Elmer Barr, brothers John Kanealy, Tom Kanealy and wife Mickey, nephews Randy Kanealy, and Andy Eiteman and great-nephew Casey Eiteman. Dennis will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his son Joshua of Perry; sister-in-law Rose Kanealy of Cedar Rapids; aunts Blanche Miner of Perry; Ruth Bailey of Kernersville, NC and Velma Bailey of Bouton; mother-in-law Ruth Barr of Perry; Teresa's siblings Ruthann Eiteman (Frank), Norma Jean Foresman, Teddy Barr (Phyllis), Wes Barr all of Perry; Sherrie Lindsey of Indiana; Jo Anderson (Tim) of Urbandale; David Barr of West Des Moines; Candy Gardner (Randy) of Clive; nieces and nephews Brian Kanealy, Jennifer Kanealy Shelburg (Eric), Abigail Kanealy Guizetti (John), Brian Eiteman (Deanna), Joel Eiteman (Sara), Jamie Eiteman (Lori), Stacy Defenbaugh (Ronny), Steve Foresman (Caroline), Scott Foresman, (Beth), Andrew, Brandon, Chad, Derrick, and Elaina Barr; Jason Anderson (god son), Sam and Slade Gardner, Zach and Kaitlyn Barr, his great nieces and nephews Colt and Cassidy Shelburg, Aiden Thomas Guizetti, Cassie Eiteman (fianc George Maldonado) Jennifer, Kassie, Kory, Lacy, and Brady Eiteman; Devon, Cayl, and Tyler Booth; Madison Stonehocker, Lane Pace (god son);Ashley Defenbaugh,Emil Pace, Annelise, Maggie, and Drew Foresman; Skye and Kaleb Bainbridge; and Gunnar Anderson; numerous cousins, other relatives and many friends.
