Dennis Bernhardt Peters was born January 13, 1944, in Boone, IA to Florence Emogene (Burkhart) and Bernhardt Peter Peters. Dennis grew up on a farm outside Ogden and Ellsworth IA with his three sisters who he loved to tease and terrorize by burning down their doll houses, tying the family cats tail to the clothesline and two calves tails together much to his mother and father's surprise. He worked hard on the farm, enjoyed raising animals and truly enjoyed his family. Denny graduated from Perry High School with the class of 1963. He joined the National Guard and served 6 years as a Lineman 36 C 20. Denny joined Bower and Bower Construction in Perry for approximately 12 years, which he credits for his love of carpentry. After that he owned and operated Denny's Custom Construction for more than 40 years and over the years shared partnerships with kind, loving friends such as Mike Sheibley and Aaron Boyer. Dennis married a wonderful, very patient woman, Linda White from Woodward, to share his life with and who loved to spoil dogs just as much as he did! Dennis always enjoyed building things for those he loved, and was very proud of his community, his church, church family and the loving friendships he built along the way. During retirement years he loved visiting Ace Hardware to see what treasures he still couldnt live without, building trinket boxes, birdhouses, tables, and refurbishing and collecting "lost" items. Denny was constantly out tinkering in his woodshop adding to his limitless collection of tools and feeding all the birds, squirrels, rabbits, and critters that came far and wide from all over Iowa to share in the wealth. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernhardt and Emogene Peters, sister, Linda Peterson of Perry, sister and brother-in-law, Lorna and Russell West of Des Moines. Denny is survived by his wife Linda, sister Bernadine, his daughters, Karen (Shawn) Shirk of Bloomfield, Deanna (Dom) McClain of Perry, and Cindy White of Madrid, son, and Todd (Teresa) White of Woodward, grandchildren; Trace M. Shirk, Lauren White, Scottie (Lindsey) Smyth, Trae Smyth, Michael Samples, Ashley Atencio, Amy White, and Sky Ankrum, and fourteen great-grandchildren. Our family would like to thank all those who knew him, loved him, shared stories, laughed with him and the many who have helped him throughout the years. We are truly blessed.
