Dicky Lee Thompson (83) passed away on Aug 11, 2024. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug 15, 2024 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory-Adel Chapel (735 S 14th St, Adel, IA 50003) from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug 16, 2024, at the Van Meter Baptist Church (309 Main St, Van Meter, IA 50261) at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Booneville Cemetery in Waukee. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Van Meter Baptist church in Dicky’s memory.
Dick reunited with his wife, Connie, who he was with for 54 years on August 11th, 2024. Dicky Lee Thompson was born on December 9th, 1940, to William and Martha Thompson. The 12th of 13 children, he was raised in the Linden and Redfield areas of Dallas County where he graduated from Dexfield High School. Dick worked a variety of jobs, ultimately retiring from the Meredith Corporation.
Dick enjoyed showing horses and attending shows at the fairs. He hunted animals and mushrooms while also engaging in frogging and fishing. He was the ultimate superfan, coach and sportsman. He enjoyed coaching girls softball and mens slowpitch. Dick loved the Van Meter Bulldogs and The Iowa State Cyclones. He loved playing cards with family and friends, as well as going to races at the Boone Speedway.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, parents, five brothers, five sisters, and grandson, Devon Slycord.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Carrie, Sheiry (Jason Slycord), Courtney, Amanda, Landan, (Kristen), Wendy, Robyn (Jeff Lund), and Nancy (Chuck Bucinski), 24 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Billy and sister, Susan as well as many nieces and nephews.
