Donald Craig Warner

Donald Craig Warner, 65, passed away on March 1, 2018. Craig was born on March 8, 1952 to Don and Barbara Warner in Des Moines, IA. He graduated from Hoover High School in 1971 and continued his education in building trades at Des Moines Area Community College. He worked as a finish carpenter until his retirement. On September 10, 1988, Craig and Barbara Bennett were married and they resided in Des Moines. A perfectionist at heart, Craig was passionate about his work as a finish carpenter. He also was passionate about the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed his summer vacations in Okoboji and fly fishing in the mountains of southern California during the winter. He was also an artist with special appreciation for the works of M.C. Escher. He enjoyed growing too many tomatoes and sharing the bounty with friends and neighbors. Craig is survived by his wife, Barbara, his father Don Warner of Johnston, his sisters Charyl Morgan of Windsor Heights, and Debbie Mikesell of Ankeny; brothers Mike Warner of Johnston, Bill (Peggy) Warner of Johnston, Neil (Jill) Smith of Gulf Breeze, FL; nephews, John (Emily) Warner of Des Moines, Blake (Jessica) Mikesell of Ankeny, Tyler Mikesell of Ankeny; nieces Wendy Morgan of Windsor Heights, Dawn (Matt) Reber of Granger; grandnieces Callie and Maggie Reber of Granger, and Ellie Mikesell of Ankeny. Craig was also close to his brothers-in-law, John Bennett of Big Bear, CA, and Stephen (Connie) Bennett and their daughter Sarah of Indio, CA; and his sister-in-law Sue Warner of San Antonio, TX. Craig was preceded in death by his mother Barbara Warner. Craig also leaves behind his beloved springer spaniels Wilson and Crosby. A celebration of Craig’s life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory, 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale IA.
