Donald D. Bittenger, 87 of Winterset, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Madision County Hospital in Winterset. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where burial will occur at a later date in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Oak Grove Church or Madison Square. Donald Dwayne Bittenger was born February 10, 1929 in Deshler, Nebraska, to Clarence and Clara (Prudence) Bittinger. He was a 1947 graduate of Stanton High School in Stanton, Nebraska and married Margaret Osborn on December 16, 1962 at the Webster Church in Madison County, Iowa. Donald was a career military man serving twenty-two and a half years in the Navy. He was a member of the Oak Grove Community Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed crafts, woodworking, cake decorating and watching TV. Donald is survived by his wife, Margaret of Winterset; two daughters, Cherita (Ed) Snyder of Winterset and Patricia Crone of Stafford, Virginia; a brother, Robert Bittinger of Winterset; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sandie Welcher; six brothers, Chauncy, Lynn, Irvin, Dick, Bud and Glen; five sisters, Tillie, Ione, Ruth, Ruby and Ester and a grandson, Justin Crawford.
