Donald Dean Gehrke

Donald Gehrke, 62, of Ankeny, formerly of Waukee, died at his home November 17, 2017 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Services will be held at 10am, Wednesday, November 22 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with burial to take place at a later date. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 21 from 6-8pm at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel. Don Gehrke was born in Creston, before moving to Waukee where he graduated in 1973. He recently retired from his life long career as a chef and lawn care professional. Survivors include his wife, Sandy; two sons, Troy (Julie) of Adel and Travis (Alison) also of Adel; three step-children, Andy (Carrie) Van Weelden of Waukee, Tammy (Don) Miller of Oskaloosa and Michael Bales of Des Moines; two brothers, Gary of Greenfield and Gail of Creston; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and Linn; and sister, Sue. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa. Online condolences may be left on this site.
