Donald (Don) Lee Palmer

April 27, 1921 — June 7, 2005

Donald Lee Palmer, the son of Loman Lee and Ethel (McKinney) Palmer was born April 27, 1921, on a farm near Parker, South Dakota. He graduated from Macksburg High School in 1938. On January 31, 1944, Don was united in marriage with Wanda (Neal) in Princeton, Missouri and three children were born to this union. Don and Wanda were married for 61 years. Don is loved and will be missed by his wife, Wanda, three children, Ron Palmer and his wife, Leann of Cumming, Steve Palmer and his wife, Pam of Winterset, and Connie Davis of Glenwood, 5 grandchildren, Scott Davis, Erin Palmer, Ed Henderson, Elizabeth Chapin, and Nicholas Palmer, 3 great grandchildren, Breanna Chapin, Jake Davis, and Byron Perkins, 2 sisters, Lois Howard of Runnells, Helen Goad and her, husband, Dick of Tigard, Oregon, sister-in-law, Marge Patterson of Martensdale, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, several cousins and many friends. Preceding him in death are his parents, a brother Max Palmer, grandson, Jonathan Palmer, triplet granddaughters, Faith, Hope, and Kylie Davis, and a niece Jaynie Goad Miller. Don entered the US Army with his childhood friend, Wyman Graham in February 1944. He was a WWII veteran. Don farmed most of his life near Macksburg and Winterset and enjoyed selling Lucas Feed for 10 years. He was the Madison County Weed Commissioner for 9 years. Don, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, remained very active until the age of 83 years. With his wife, he enjoyed years of dancing, bowling and spending winters in Arizona and Texas. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, spending time on his farm, coffee with his friends and trips with his family. Don was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion Post 184 of Winterset. Visitation: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday with family present June 9, 2005 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday June 10, 2005 at First United Methodist Church of Winterset Memorial: Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church and/or Middle River Hospice both of Winterset.
