A vigil service for Donald Glen Grow was held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. A Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013 at the St. Brigid Catholic Church in Grand Junction, Iowa. Officiating was Father Donald Ries. Nicole Weeks and Kylie White were the lectors. Eucharistic Ministers were Ron Brown and Vickie Striegel. Gift bearers were Kathy Alex, Becky Kinney, Deb Miller, Denise Elston, Kevin Grow and Blanch Kersey. Jeff Alex and Gina Reed were the ushers. Honorary bearers: Phil Lansing, Kevin Grow, Roy Sellers, Eric Elston, Mark P. Simons and Andrew Elston. Casket bearers: Doug Kinney, Mark Miller, Steve Alex, Bridgette Scott, Jason Alex and Aaron Kinney. Monica McGregor and Sheilah Pound were the musicians. Interment & Military Rites took place at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Grand Junction with the Kinkead-Martin American Legion Post #583 and Iowa Army National Guard Funeral Honors. Following the service was a luncheon at the St. Brigid's parish center. Donald Glen Grow, son of Glen Franklin Grow and Alice Irene Drake Grow was born August 11, 1930 in Rippey, Iowa and died May 4, 2013 in Moultrie, Georgia at the age of 82. He grew up in Rippey and graduated high school in 1948. On November 13, 1951 Don served in the United States Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged October 30, 1953. Donald was united in marriage to JoAnne Rosetta Miller on April 28, 1956 at the St. Brigid Catholic Church in Grand Junction, Iowa. They were blessed with six children: Kathy, Becky, Deb, Denise, Kevin and Brian. Donald was a hard worker all of his life. He owned a Shelling Business, worked for Rippey Telephone Company for a time and he sold Archer Oil Company. Donald auctioned with his father Glen before owning Grand Junction Auction House and Grow Auction. Don farmed the home place acreage and helped various farmers through the years. He also cared for the Old Rippey Cemetery. Don and JoAnne enjoyed ballroom and square dancing. He also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and various basketball, football, and baseball games. Donald was a member of the Rippey Saddle Club, American Legion, Rippey Lions, St. Brigid Catholic Church and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moultrie. Donald is preceded in death by his parents, son Brian Grow (2012) and brother-in-law Gerald Brown. Donald is survived by his wife JoAnne Grow of Moultrie, GA; four daughters: Kathy Alex (Steve) of Ottumwa, IA; Becky Kinney (Doug) of Waukee, IA; Deb Miller (Mark) of Perry, IA; and Denise Elston (Roy Sellers) of Moultrie, GA; son Kevin Grow of Perry, IA; 10 grandchildren: Jeffrey Alex, Jason Alex, Gina Reed, Aaron Kinney, Kylie White, Bridgette Scott, Lt. Mark Simons, Nicole Weeks, Eric Elston, and Andrew Elston; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Doris Brown of Rippey, IA and Cleo Ison (Don) of Venice, FL; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends. www.hastingsfh.com
