Donald Jay Hilts

Donald Don Jay Hilts, 64, passed away December 28th, 2015 at his home in Urbandale, Iowa. Donald was born November 7th, 1951 in Akron, Iowa to Harry and Lou Hilts. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1969 and attended Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa the following fall. On April 9th of 1971, Don married Karen (Jubell) and they had two sons, Bret and Todd. Donald served in the army from 1971 to 1974 and was a member of the Dallas Center Volunteer Fire and Rescue team. He worked for AT&T until 1990, when he took a job working for Central Iowa Power Cooperative. He officially retired in September. Don loved to golf, ice fish, and vacation with his wife. Family and friends meant everything to Don and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Don is preceded in death by his father, Harry Hilts; step-mother, Mary Hilts; step-father, George Hansen; and brother Kenny Hilts. He is survived by his loving wife Karen; two sons, Bret and Todd; grandchildren, Hailey, Jenna, Jack, and Mackenzie Hilts; mother, Lou Hansen; brothers, Tom (Connie) Hilts, Bruce Hilts, and Chris (Tina) Hilts; sisters, Sue and Cathy Hilts, and many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 3, 2015 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, held at Caldwell Parrish funeral home (8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale, Iowa 50322) and the funeral service will be held at the same location Monday morning at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
