A Memorial Service for Donald Keith Kling was held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Honorary bearers were: Darren Kling, Mike Canon, Doug Canon, Dawn Canon, Greg Canon, Lori Canon, Chris Canon and Cynthia Page. Interment took place at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Donald Keith Kling, son of Donald Edmund and Sarah Agnes Neel King, was born July 9, 1925 in Boone County, north of Berkley, and died June 5, 2014 in Ames, Iowa at the age of 88 years. Donald attended school in Berkley for one year, and in 1929, after the family moved to Perry, attended the Perry School system. He finished school when the family moved to Los Angeles in 1940. Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1943 and was honorably discharged in August. In December 1949, Don married Edith Ellen Quinlisk in Perry, Iowa. To this marriage, Dennis was born. Don returned to the Perry area, where he worked for Wheelwright Oil Company from 1944-47. He then worked for Pantier Cartage Company from 1947-48. In 1948, Don started working for the NAPA Auto Parts store and then worked for the John Kling Nash car dealership for a couple of years. In 1951, Don worked on the production line and did maintenance for Perry Milk Products. In 1966, he started working for Bourns Incorporated in Ames, where he continued until the plant closed in 1990. Don retired at that time. In May1995, he came out of retirement to work at Kreg Tool in Huxley and worked there until 2009. Don married Leone P. Canon on November 9, 1971 in Ames. He became a father to Gary Canon (Beverly). The couple lived in Ames, where Don continued to live since Leone's death on November 10, 1998. When he wasn't spending time with his grandchildren, he loved to work around the house. He enjoyed remodeling and working. Don is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Leone, and sons Dennis and Gary. Don is survived by his daughter-in-law Beverly Canon of Ames, IA, five grandchildren: Darren Kling of Kansas, Mike Canon and Cynthia Page of Ames, Doug and Dawn Canon of Ames, Greg and Lori Canon of Ankeny and Chris Canon of Windsor Heights, great-grandchildren: Crystal, Ashley, Stephanie, Sarah, Rachel, Amy, Jessica, Andrew, Trevor, Jacqueline, Steven, Jacob and Mikaela, other relatives and many friends. Memorials in Donald's name may be sent to the Israel Hospice House of Ames and may be left at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. www.hastingsfh.com
