Donald Leroy Morris, 81 of Stronghurst, IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Accura Heathcare in Ogden, IA. He was born February 5, 1938 in Galesburg, IL to parents Archie and Mary Eileen (Davis) Morris. Don was a 1956 graduate of Stronghurst High School and learned the trades of farming and construction from his father. Don traveled among the surrounding communities and across the country working construction throughout his life; from 1960-1973 with Morris Construction of Stronghurst, IL, and from 1973-1983 with Waller Brothers Construction of Macomb, IL, working primarily on the Gerogetown subdivision. In addition, he owned and operated Bonnie and Clyde’s in Industry, IL with his wife Bonnie from 1973-1983. Don did not know a stranger and had a knack for making friends everywhere he went. Don’s greatest pleasure was completing construction projects for family and friends. Survivors include his children Brenda (Dalend) Mackey of Stuart, IA, Linda (Daniel) Wohlford of Overland Park, KS, Todd Morris of Des Moines, IA, Melissa (Steven) Brush of Clive, IA, all from his second marriage to Loretta Mellinger originally of Burlington, IA; Andria “Andi” (Andrew) Potter of Macomb, IL from his third marriage to Bonnie Blasi originally of Stronghurst, IL; eleven grandchildren, Thomas and Blake Mackey, Cameron and Grant Wohlford, Sophie (Morris) Safford, Emily, Rachel and Nathan Brush, Alix, Drew and Samuel Potter; one great-grandchild Grayson Wohlford; one sister Ruth (John) Bickell of Burlington, IA and one brother, Kenneth of Stronghurst, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, sister Beverly Brent of Stronghurst, IL, brother-in-law Donald Brent of Stronghurst, IL, brother Jerry Wayne, son Marty from his first marriage to Franklin Lackey of California, and daughter-in-law Pamela (Gilley) Morris Beenken of West Des Moines, IA. A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held at the Stronghust American Legion, 120 N. Broadway Street, on Sunday, February 2 at noon. Burial service at Stronghurst Cemetery will follow the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association.
