Donald Lee Krieger

A service for Donald Lee Krieger was held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Tim Johnson of the First Christian Church in Perry provided words of comfort. Casket Bearers were: Gail Monthei, Paul Miller, Krystal Burkhart, Jon Kile, Carla Thorp and Essie Merrill. Marjorie Vannatta was the organist. Hymns were The Old Rugged Cross and How Great Thou Art. Following the service was a luncheon in the Hastings Funeral Home Lounge. Interment took place at Prairie Center Cemetery in Dallas County, Iowa. Donald Lee Krieger, son of Lester P. Krieger and Bernice L. Merical Krieger, was born June 24, 1921 at home on a farm near Prairie Center in Dallas County, Iowa and died August 10, 2013 at Perry Health Care Center in Perry, Iowa at the age of 92. Donald graduated from Washington Township School in 1939. He served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945 during WWII. He lived in West Des Moines in the 1950's, then in Dallas Center for 9 years before moving to Perry in 1987. Donald worked for Hy-Line International near Dallas Center, Iowa and later retired from there. He enjoyed looking at old and new autos and enjoyed music and making up his own lyrics. He particularly liked the Wednesday morning socials and visiting with others. Donald is preceded in death by his parents, sister Doris Langer (2001), aunts & uncles. He is survived by his brother-in-law Bernard "Barney" Langer of Des Moines, IA; nephew Kevin Langer; cousins: Betty Hansen of Iowa City; Ronald & Karen Trochuck of Fontana, WI; Mike & Carol Polson of Indianola, IA; Richard & Kathy Merical of Ankeny, IA; Anita Helmick of Leawood, KS; Carl & Gerry Croom of Shawnee, KS; Larry & Judy Burgess of Shawnee, KS; other relatives; and many friends. www.hastingsfh.com
