Donald Leroy Cooper, 84, of Winterset, Iowa died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at West Bridge Care and Rehabilitation in Winterset after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, June 1, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Burial will be in the Peru Cemetery at Peru, Iowa. Mr. Cooper was born on December 20, 1932, in Winterset, Iowa, to Roy and Alice Mae (Weber) Cooper. He was married on October 29, 1968, to Marilyn B. Huston at Winterset. Mr. Cooper had spent his lifetime around Madison County and worked at Dixon Feeds in Des Moines until its closing. He later worked at Rose Acres Farms in Winterset as nighttime security and retired from there at 70 years old. Mr. Cooper is survived by four nieces, Norma Trester of Booneville, Trish Sanders of Winterset, Sandy Lane of Blockton, Valarie Kerns of Coppell, Texas, and Shelli Auten of Villisca; and step children Barbara Welch of Winterset, Carolyn O’Leary of Waukee, Jerry Mitchell and David Mitchell both of Winterset. He is also survived by many great nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers, two sisters, one niece, and one nephew. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 PM. Memorials may be left to his family for a future designation.
