Donald Allen Potter

Don Potter, 79 of Windsor Heights, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A private family farewell will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Everystep Kavanaugh House (900 56th St, Des Moines, IA 50312) in memory of Donald.

Don was born April 12, 1945 in Des Moines to Leslie and Vivian (Broherd) Potter. He graduated in 1963 from Waukee High School. Following high school, he married Barb Shriner and they had two daughters, Dawn and Denise. On November 10, 1990 he married Deb Farley at Living History Farms and gained his third daughter, Shana.

Don worked for Meredith Publishing and R.R. Donnelley in the print department for over 30 years. Don had many titles… “Weatherman Potter”. No major event took place without his weather forecast; “The Master of Long, Winding and Tall Tales”. He pulled you in and you never knew how they would end; “Champion Bowler”. In his younger years, Don bowled numerous 300, 299 and 298 games. He even appeared on a local popular bowling television show. Finally, the “Grass Whisperer”. He was also a life-long fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and LA Dodgers.

Don loved this family especially his wife, Deb; daughters, Dawn (Ron) Peta, Denise Potter (Matt Bogardus), Shana (Mark) Rainey; grandchildren Chad, Matt, Sarah, Marquis, Savannah, Brittany, Tessa, Jordan, Donna, Denisha and Will; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and siblings, Chuck, Jim, Donna, Charlotte and his twin brother Ron.
