Donald R. Anschutz

Donald Richard Anschutz, son of Richard N. Anschutz and Maude Thornburgh Anschutz, was born November 18, 1909 on a farm west of Rippey, Iowa and died September 9, 2005 at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa at the age of 95 years, 9 months and 21 days. Donald lived with his family in Rippey, Iowa for a time before moving to Paton, then later to Ogden before moving back to Rippey where he graduated from Rippey High School. On December 15, 1935 Donald was united in marriage to Edith Pentico at the Baptist Church south of Ogden. They were the parents of two children: Shirley and Gary. They made their home in the rural Rippey area before moving into Rippey in 1948. Donald worked as a coalminer for a few years before he started to farm. He later found his love for automobiles and became an auto mechanic at Fry Auto Chevrolet Garage in Rippey. Donald also stayed busy delivering the Sunday paper for many years for rural Rippey. Donald loved to fish. In 1980, Donald and Edith began camping at Don Williams, at which time they decided to learn to play golf, often playing three times a day. He also loved to read, and often wouldn't put down a paper until it was read completely through. Donald was a member of the Rippey United Methodist Church, Elmo Masonic Lodge #465 in Rippey, Iowa where he was a Past Master as well as a Fifty Year Member. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; 2 grandchildren: Terry Anschutz and Mary Glenn; and 3 sisters: Vera Heater, Lucille Clark and Anna Faye Truax. He is survived by his daughter: Shirley Glenn and her husband Kenny of Perry, Iowa; his son: Gary Anschutz and his wife Joyce of Jefferson, Iowa; 6 grandchildren: Ronald Glenn and his wife Kelly, Wayne Anschutz and his wife Ellen, Bradley Anschutz and his wife Shannon, Brian Anschutz and his wife Jackie, Christine Anschutz and Sherry De Mello and her husband Tony; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
