Donald Brady Showman 82, passed from this life February 13, 2022 in Apache Junction, Arizona. He was born February 5, 1940 to Brady and Mabel (Ryder) Showman in Sigourney, Iowa. Don was united in marriage to Sharon Diann Lemley November 18, 1962. Don held several careers over the years which included the Department of Agriculture in Iowa and Shell Gas Station Manager in Arizona . When the family moved back to Iowa from Arizona in the 1970’s, he was known as Ranger Don with the Boy Scout Camp at Lake Wapello near Drakesville, Iowa as well as Bus Driver Don for the Davis County School District. Don was a multitasker. Additionally, he served as a Star Mail Route Carrier for over 20 years. During this same time Don and Sharon owned and operated their own business in Bloomfield, Iowa for 7 years. It was called The Butcher Block. It originally started as a meat market but grew to encompass a deli/cafe and rental apartments. Don retired in 2000. He enjoyed his time traveling with Sharon in their motor home to many different states, at work-camping jobs, and selling See’s Candies. Don was an avid fisherman, hunter and especially enjoyed Saylorville Lake near Des Moines, Iowa. The past 15 years he spent his time either volunteering at Saylorville or as the camp host at The Meadows campground near Bloomfield, Iowa. Don is survived by his wife Sharon of almost 60 years and their 3 daughters: Debrah Linsley (Steve) of Knoxville, Teresa Crowley of Ottumwa and Tami Rubino (Jeff) of Urbandale; 8 grandchildren: Seth, Nash, Hanna, Megan, Aaron, Avary, Dominic, Gabriel, and 1 great-grandson: Phoenix. He is also survived by 4 siblings: Mildred Hartson, Virginia Glick, Connie Messerschmitt, Tom Showman and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents Brady and Mabel, 2 brothers David and Danny Showman, 2 sisters Dorothy Jacobs and Mary Showman, a granddaughter Ariel Thomas and a great granddaughter Cloe Marie Chandler. Don chose to be cremated. A Celebration of life for Don will be held on June 12, 2022 at the Saylorville Lake Sandpiper shelter house from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. Stop in or bring your lawn chairs and stay a while. We will be camping Saturday night June 11 at the Prairie Flower campground to pay homage to Don and his favorite fishing lake. All Memorials made will be equally divided between St Jude’s Children Hospital and The Hope for Children Foundation.
