Donald William Hamilton, son of William Hiram Hamilton and Golda Porterfield Hamilton, was born January 21, 1916 at Dr. Limburg's home in Jefferson, Iowa, and died September 12, 2009 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. "Buck" as he was lovingly known graduated Jefferson High School in 1933. He attended college for two years and on November 23, 1942, was commissioned in the U.S. Navy. Buck was a Pilot, Naval Aviator Photographic Officer as well as a Flight Officer, Transportation Officer and Material Officer. Buck completed many areas of schooling during his military career. He saw duty overseas and at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack was stationed on Guam. He earned the American Theatre and Asiatic Pacific medals as well as the Victory Medal. Buck was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant (A1 ) to inactive duty in December of 1945. Buck met Adeline Eve Goodwater at the Franklin Hotel in Des Moines. They were married on September 12, 1947. Buck and Addie were the proud parents of Jerry and Yvon. His love of flying led Buck to be a crop duster for many years. Many in this area were taught to fly by Buck. He was a part of his family's corporation and his specialty was television and stereo sales and repair. He also farmed. Buck was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Floyd Brown American Legion Post #11, VFW Post #9599, Masonic Lodge #159, and the Lincoln Highway Association. He enjoyed rising horses, dancing, being with people, and riding his scooter the past several years. He was an honest, respectful man who was very kind hearted. Buck was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Adeline, his sister Dorothy Hamilton and brother Albert Hamilton. He is survived by his son Jerry Hamilton and his wife Luisa of Alameda, CA and daughter Yvon Hamilton of Jefferson, IA; four grandchildren Alicia Heerdt and her husband Matt of Bozeman, MT; Holly Snow of Jefferson, IA; Peyton Christian Hamilton and Isabella Camille Hamilton both of Alameda, CA; sister-in-law Barbara Hamilton of Jefferson, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
