A service for Donna Joanne Davis was held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction, Iowa. Visitation was after 1:00 p.m. with family present 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday September 21, 2014 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson, Iowa. Pastor Steve Ransom of the First United Methodist Church provided words of comfort. Honorary casket bearers were: June Winchell, Max Kersey, Ramona Kersey, Bill Liston and Karen Liston. Casket bearers were: Dennis Ostrander, Darwin Hoskinson, Dennis Jacobs, Terry Doyle, Dick Davis and Larry Miller. Gary Haupert was the soloist. Hymns chosen were: I'll Fly Away, The Lord's Prayer and May I Have This Dance. Interment took place at Junction Township Cemetery in Grand Junction, Iowa. Following the service at the cemetery was a luncheon at the church. Donna Joanne Davis, daughter of Harold Flynn and Clara Flynn was born October 18, 1928 in Perry, Iowa and died September 18, 2014 in Perry, Iowa at the age of 85. Donna graduated Perry High School in 1946. She was united in marriage to Dale E. Davis on March 9, 1947 at the First Christian Church in Perry. They met at a square dance and continued to dance for many years throughout their 65 years of marriage. They were blessed with two sons, Duane and Brian. When Dale was inducted into the military in 1951, Donna accompanied him to California. While residing there, Donna worked at the stock exchange reading the ticker tape and posting it to the boards. When she returned to Iowa with Dale, she helped Dale farm until they retired on their farm. Donna would also go to Grand Junction in the fall and help sort corn for the local seed company. During retirement, Donna and Dale continued serving the community by delivering congregate meals. Donna was very active with the church, teaching Sunday school and helping cook in the kitchen. Donna enjoyed cooking and no one left the table hungry. Her homemade cinnamon rolls were famous throughout the neighborhood. Donna also loved making many types of homemade candy for everyone as her special treat for Christmas. Donna also enjoyed knitting, keeping the family warm with blankets, caps and scarves. She so loved spending her time with all the grandkids and their activities growing up. Donna was very devoted to her family showing much love, care, patience, and totally in love with Dale. Donna is preceded in death by her husband Dale E. Davis, parents Harold and Clara Flynn, in-laws Joe and Dorothy Faye Davis, brother-in-law Floyd "Hap" Davis, sister-in-laws Patricia Flynn, Doris Hoskinson and Phyllis Davis. Donna will be lovingly remembered by her sons Duane Davis and fiance Alyssa Horton of rural Gowrie; Brian Davis and wife Lee Ann of rural Jefferson; grandchildren: Jennifer Laub and husband Kris, Justin Davis and wife Melissa, Talisha Davis, Travis Davis, Chealyn Davis, Artur Plyaskin, Sabrina Horton and Lane Horton; her 10 precious great-grandchildren: Colby Laub, Collin Laub, Aubrey Davis, Maia Davis, Gavin Davis, Adriana Echevarria, Isaiah Echevarria, Robert Hofbauer, Aaliyah Davis and Chloe Donna JoDayle Davis. Donna is also survived by her brother Melford Flynn, and brother-in-law Dean Hoskinson; many wonderful nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
