Services for Doris Ethel Herrick were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation was from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Following the service was a time of fellowship and refreshments at the funeral home. Mr. Curly Holz provided words of comfort. Recorded music selected was "Amazing Grace" by Elvis, "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "In The Sweet Bye And Bye". Interment took place at Junction Township Cemetery in Grand Junction, Iowa. Doris Ethel Herrick, daughter of Lee and Ethel Shaffer, was born in Hayfield, Minnesota on February 2, 1921, and died on June 24, 2016 at the Regency Care Center in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 95. Doris was united in marriage with Harold (Pete) Herrick on September 29, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa. Harold took her from Beauty School in Des Moines to his farm where she cooked a noon meal for farm hands the very next day. She worked with Harold on the family farm until 1969. They were the parents of two children, Gerold and Priscilla. Doris enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and gardening. She especially enjoyed her years with the Sunny Sewers at the Methodist Church in Grand Junction. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gaylord and Willard; her husband Harold; two grandsons, Kevan Herrick and Troy Hoersch; and one great-grandson Brandon Hoersch. She is survived by one son Gerold (Jerry) Herrick and wife Shirley of Grand Junction, IA; one daughter Priscilla Hoersch (Dwight) of Council Bluffs, IA; eight grandchildren: J.R.. Herrick (Mary) of Pringle, SD, Mike Herrick of Afton, IA, Ted Herrick of Jefferson, IA Shannon Hoersch Staton (Mitch) of Council Bluffs, IA, Angela Hoersch Mueller (Ron) of Council Bluffs, IA, Ed Vredenburgh of Council Bluffs, IA, Ron Barnes (Tracy) of Bentonville, AR, and Greg Phillips of Grand Junction, IA; great-grandchildren: Linda Herrick Oliver (Justin) of Parker, AZ, Gerold Herrick III of Pringle, SD, Ariana Hoersch and Madison Mueller of Council Bluffs, IA, Austin and Goeffery Staton of Council Bluffs, IA, Brandt Barnes, Crissy Burnside (Christopher) and Gunner Barnes; five great-great-grandchildren: Kaden Burnside, Kennedy Bunside and Kooper Burnside all of Bentonville, AR, Braydin Brewer of Crescent, IA and Morgen Oliver of Parker, AZ; other relatives and many friends.
