Hastings Funeral Home in Perry is in charge of arrangements for Doris Jean Fessler, 95, of Perry. Doris passed away peacefully on August 18, 2022 at Kings Garden Campus in Perry. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Hastings Funeral Home with family present from 5-7. A Rosary Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Perry with burial in Violet Hill Cemetery. Doris Jean Fessler, daughter of William Francis Simmer Sr. and Gertrude Mary Garland Simmer, was born September 18, 1926 in Perry, Iowa. Doris graduated from Perry High School in 1944. She met Earl Eugene Fessler and the two were united in marriage. The couple was blessed with three sons, Rich, Jeff, and Mick. Doris loved taking her boys to see the New York Yankees play baseball. She was a wonderful cook and made enough food to feed an Army! Doris was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Perry and always sat in the same pew every Saturday night. On Friday nights Doris would invite her family and friends over to play cards for nickels and dimes. She enjoyed traveling, playing the slots at the casino, and watching for England semitrucks to drive by. Doris loved her family more than anything else in the world and if you knew her then you were lucky. She lived a very long and full life. Doris passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on August 18, 2022 at Kings Garden Campus in Perry, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents William Sr. and Gertrude Simmer; husband Earl Fessler; son Mick Fessler; brothers: Donald Simmer Rosie) and Bill Simmer; and sisters: Honey Brooks (Orville), Babe Gregg (Orville), Bang Bingold (Dick), and Mae Mansfield (Floyd).
