Doris Blair, age 95 of Slater, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at her home in Slater, IA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Perry Bible Church in Perry, IA. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 16, 2022, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Perry. Burial will be in the Slater Cemetery in Slater. Everyone is encouraged to wear face coverings and practice social distancing while attending visitation and services. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Perry Bible Church and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Online condolences may be left at www.carrisfuneralhome.com. Doris Lenore Blair was born Jan. 29, 1926, in Concordia, Kansas to David Linn and Helen Lenore (Willert) Livers. She was born with a twin brother as well. She grew up on a farm near Waterville, Kansas and attended a one room elementary school in District 118 lone Tree School and then High school in Waterville, Kansas graduating in 1944. She was involved with 4H, music, and Drama Club all through High school. Home Ec was her favorite subject. After graduating she moved to Wichita, Kansas to live with her sister Helen and worked at Beechcraft as a parts expediter until the war ended to save money for college. She then attended Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska earning a 2-year Elementary Ed degree. After that she moved to Potter, Nebraska and taught 3rd and 4th grades. On New Years Eve 1947 she met Robert Owen Blair and after finishing her teachers contract went back home and then moved to Wichita and they were married November 24, 1948, in Waterville, Kansas. Then they lived in Manhattan, Kansas until Bob graduated in 1951. In Sept of 1951 they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where Bob worked at Collins Radio Company. They lived in Bertram, Hiawatha, and most of those 13 years in Robins, Iowa. She worked several years at Collins and started a Boy Scout group and then a Camp Fire Girls group but spent most of her life as a homemaker. In Robins they attended Faith Baptist and it was there she committed her life to Christ. While living in Robins 2 girls were adopted, Ann in 1960, and Jean in 1963 and in 1964 moved to Ames. In 1973 moved to Chillicothe, MO for 3 years for Bob's employment change and moved to Madrid Iowa in 1976. In 1983 they relocated to East Iowa bible Camp near Deep River, Iowa where Bob was director for three years, then back to Ames where Bob worked back at ISU and located in Slater, Iowa in 1986 and lived there until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents Linn and Lenore Livers of Waterville, Kansas, brother Ronald W. Livers of Hayes, KS, sister Helen Mattson of Overland Park, KS, her twin Brother David L. Livers of Normal, IL, her husband Robert 0. Blair. Surviving are her sister Jean Rinde of Fergus Falls, MN, daughters Ann B. Watson (Ken) of Forsyth, MO, and Jean E. Blair of Orange City, IA, seven grandchildren: Timothy (Abbey) Miller of Mt Holly, NC, Sasha (Zach) Baetsle of Carlisle, IA, Jennifer Bunning of Des Moines, IA, Lucas Bunning of Des Moines, IA, Joe and James Darby of Boone, IA, Tiffani (Nick) Pospisil of Ames, seven great grandchildren: Diedrich and Alexis Miller, Chase Sondgeroth, Grayson Pospisil, Landon Bunning-Allie, Skye Gardner, Emma West and 13 nephews and nieces.
