Dorothy Ann Cathey

Dorothy Ann Cathey left for heaven on October 7, 2021. She was born February 20, 1929 to William and Eva Barnett in Redfield, IA. Dorothy attended a one room country school in Stuart, elementary grades and some high school in Ames and graduated from Linden High School in 1947. After graduation she went to work for the telephone company, continuing her 35 year career with the company while living in Phoenix, AZ and San Diego, CA. Dorothy met her husband, Harold Cathey in Phoenix and they were married in 1949 and shortly moved to San Diego where they enjoyed visits from nieces, nephews and many friends and family. Her husband passed away in 1996 in Hugo, OK, where they lived in retirement. Dorothy lived in the Des Moines area since 1997 and was an active member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church. She always had time, and thoroughly enjoyed visits with friends and the opportunity to make new friends. Since 2012, she has resided at the 3801 Grand Retirement Campus and remained active with new friends on the Wi bowling team, working jig-saw puzzles and other activities. Dorothy continued to enjoy baking and reading. She lived a beautiful life, so full of love, hope and kindness. Dorothy was proceeded in death by her parents, brother Fred Barnett in Phoenix, sisters Elaine Barnett from Linden and Shirley Saliger of Fort Dodge. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Hugo. Memorials may be sent to Immanuel United Methodist Church at 2900 49th Street, Des Moines, IA 50310.
