Dorothy Eileen Risher, 96, passed away peacefully at Madison Square Assisted Living on March 23, 2015. Born August 1, 1918, Eileen was the third of six children of Blaine and Bess (Burd) Miles. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1936 and soon thereafter moved to San Diego, CA where she later met and married Al Sylvia. She returned to Winterset, Iowa in 1969 following Al's death. She later married Gordon Risher, an old high school friend. They resided in Arizona and then returned to Winterset where they lived until Gordon's death in 2001. Eileen was an accomplished, self-taught pianist who played in USO clubs during World War II and later in dinner clubs in the San Diego area. She was also an avid tournament-caliber bridge player, was a fan of the San Diego Padres and her father's favorite baseball team the Pittsburgh Pirates, and a devoted "mom" to her cats. One of Eileen's most endearing qualities was the fact that she never complained about anything and was always willing to take things "as they come". As her health began to fail, she moved to Madison Square Assisted Living in Winterset and truly enjoyed her time there. Eileen was preceded in death by husbands Al and Gordon, her parents Blaine and Bess Miles, her brothers Daniel and Philip Miles and her sisters Margaret Miles and Margery Boresi. She is survived by her brother Victor Miles of Sun City, California and numerous nieces and nephews who will always remember her fondly. A visitation at McCalley-Collins Funeral in Winterset is scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2015 at 9:00 a.m., with a short memorial service to follow.
