Dorothy Jean Winkelman, daughter of Grover Cleveland Dalrymple and Maude Arabelle Minor Dalrymple was born January 29, 1927 at Rippey, Iowa, and died October 12, 2009 at her home south of Perry at the age of 82 years, 8 months, 13 days. Dorothy's funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2009 at Hastings Funeral Home, Perry, Iowa, words of comfort were shared by her pastor Bruce R. Webster, of the Church of Christ, Jefferson, Iowa and her son-in-law, David Dvorak, Church of Christ, Homer, Alaska, her honorary bearers Don Schilling, Dale Shirbroun, Stan Stewart, Jack Stewart, Dareld Albright, Ruth Lapp, Earl Wright and Don Allen , active casket bearer were Roger Dvorak, Wendy Pruitt, Douglas Dvorak, Mist D'June-Gussak, Matt Pike, Jeremy Winkelman, Rich Jensen, Robert Winkelman, Emily Fernading, Dawn Newman, Tasha Winkelman, Mary Fortney, Ryan Murphy, Danielle Murphy, Kade Winkelman, Toni Lewis, Amanda Jones, Kayla Schark, and Kelsey Schark, the congregation sang I Come To The Garden Alone, How Great Thou Art, The Old Rugged Cross, and Amazing Grace. Her burial was at the Rippey Cemetery, at Rippey, Iowa. The Ladies of the Jefferson Church of Christ served a lunch back in Perry at Hastings Funeral Home Lounge. Dorothy graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1946. On May 19, 1946, she married Lloyd Benjamin Winkelman at her parents' home southwest of Grand Junction. Lloyd said she was his sunshine for 63 years. Dorothy and Lloyd were blessed with six children, Marilyn, Merle, Ken, John, Marcia and Brian. Dorothy and Lloyd made their home south of Rippey for a year before moving to Paton for 8 years. They moved back to Rippey for 5 years and in 1960 moved south of Perry. They moved to their present home 9 years ago. Dorothy actively farmed with Lloyd and helped with the dairy herd. She had worked for Dave's Dairyland which was later Happy Harry's before working at Hallmark in Perry and Johnston & Johnston in Des Moines. Dorothy's main love was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always active in her church and her church family was very dear to her. Dorothy enjoyed singing and had a lovely alto voice. She never read music, but sang and played her accordion with perfect pitch and harmony. Dorothy enjoyed walking through the woods at Thanksgiving time with her family. She enjoyed sports, watching her grandchildren participate, but always loving her Cyclones. Dorothy had enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska to visit her children. Dorothy was very close to her siblings and always enjoyed being with them and family reunions. She was known as a great cook and family's favorites were her chocolate pie, cake and chicken and noodles. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, sisters and brothers including her twin Walter Dean who died when 2, Lois Littlefield, Don Dalrymple, Byron Dalrymple, Betty Johnston, Chari Hudson, Dale Dalrymple, and son-in-law Mike Murphy. She is survived by and lovingly remembered by her husband Lloyd; children, Marilyn Dvorak and husband David of Homer, Alaska; Merle and wife Linda of North Pole, Alaska; Ken and wife Deb of Maple Grove, MN; John and wife Judith of Auburn, IA; Marcia Murphy of Perry, IA; and Brian and wife Christina of Indianola, IA; 19 grandchildren, Roger Dvorak and wife Misty; Wendy Pruitt and husband Perry; Douglas Dvorak and wife Erica; Mist D'June-Gussak and husband Josh; Matt Pike and wife Alison; Jeremy Winkelman and wife Jennifer; Rich Jensen and wife Tonya; Robert Winkelman and friend Noelle; Emily Fernading and husband Dan; Dawn Newman; Tasha Winkelman; Mary Fortney; Ryan Murphy and wife Lisa; Danielle Murphy; Kade Winkelman; Amanda Jones; Toni Lewis; Kayla Schark; and Kelsey Schark. Dorothy is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, Gabriella Dvorak; Kristina and Matthew Pruitt; Craig Dvorak; Andrew and Bretten Winkelman; Andrew J. Winkelman; Jessica, Nicole, and Jayda Jensen; Jake, Callie, and Kate Fernading; Ann and Adrian Newman; Lilianna Fortney; and Braydon Murphy; sister Darlene Carlson of Boone, IA; sisters-in-law Rose Dalrymple of Oregon and Ruth Dalrymple of California; brother-in-law Dale Winkelman and wife Barbara of Churdan; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
