Dorothy Jean Brooks

Dorothy Jean Brooks, daughter of Guy Russell Nourse and Bertha E. Smith Nourse, was born March 22, 1919 in Minburn, Iowa, and passed away November 3, 2007 at her home in Perry, Iowa, at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 11 days. Dorothy graduated from Washington Township School in 1936 and attended 4 C's Business College in Des Moines, Iowa. She worked for Younkers in the accounting department. Dorothy married Pal Henry Brooks on September 21, 1947 at Washington Chapel. They were parents of two daughters, Linday and Cynthia. Dorothy was an active partner on their farm south of Dawson in Lincoln Township. She enjoyed being a part of her daughters' lives, assisting with 4-H and other activities, as well as being active in Farm Burear and Extension Service. In 1961 Dorothy and Paul moved into Perry. Dorothy worked for Kelleher's Laundromat and later took the position of secretary to Jim Haas at the Perry State Bank. She reitred after several years as secretary in the Chaplain's office at the Woodward State Hospital School. Dorothy was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Perry and the United Presbyterian Women. She also enjoyed her membership in teh Garden Club as her passion was gardening and flowers. Music was also an important part of Dorothy's life and she played the piano. Paul and Dorothy spend many hours doing for others and that included providing transportation scheduled through Dallas County Home Care Services. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Verne and Russell; son-in-law, Stan Weiser. She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Paul; daughters, Linda Ybarra and husband Arnie, and Cynthia Pietras and husband Joseph; sister, Lucille Smith and husband Mark; other relatives and many friends.
