Dorothy Celsy, 88, passed away on April 7, 2014, after a short illness at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Dorothy grew up in Eddyville and then moved to Des Moines when she was 18 years old. She first worked as a file clerk at a local insurance company, and was promoted to a typist. Nadine, a high school friend introduced Dorothy to John Nicoletto, her first husband. Their first date was at a dance. They were married 4 months later. She lost John to cancer shortly after their first daughter Helen Jean turned 3 years old and Dorothy was pregnant with her first son Johnnie. After Johnnie was born, Dorothy opened Dorothy's Lady's Ready to Wear on Merle Hay Road. It was one of the first shopping malls in the area. One of her first customers was Rose Celsy. When Rose's son Fred Celsy returned from Music School in Chicago, Dorothy knew that was a match made in Heaven. Fred immediately fell in love with Dorothy and her children. After they were married, they had 3 of their own children; Kathy Celsy Robertson, Vince Celsy, and David Celsy. Dorothy and Fred were married for 51 years. Dorothy and Fred are survived by all 5 children, 3 sisters, 1 brother, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
