Dorothy Lucille Hollebrands

Dorothy Hollebrands, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at the age of 91. Funeral services for Dorothy will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with services starting at 11:00 AM and a luncheon immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to St. Croix Hospice in Ankeny. Dorothy was born January 2nd 1926 to Thelma and James Rudkin. Dorothy was born on her parent’s farm in Milo Iowa and was the oldest of six children. She married Paul Hollebrands in 1944 and had two daughters Sandy McIntosh and Jan Hollebrands (Castek). Dorothy loved to fish and this was a passion that lasted throughout her lifetime. Along with fishing she was quite a bowler and had a near perfect game at one point in her life. She was a really good seamstress and made many of her daughters’ clothes when they were young and quilts for everyone in the family and church fundraisers. Dorothy had a passion for cooking and made many delicious meals for family and friends. Dorothy had a very competitive spirit and was never happier than when she won at cards during family get-to-gethers. Dorothy was an avid sports fan and had a special place in her heart for the Cardinals baseball team and Iowa State basketball. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Paul 23 years ago. She leaves behind her daughters, Jan Hollebrands (Castek) and Sandy McIntosh. She has four grandchildren, Jill Nolkemper, Jim McIntosh, Janet Darien, Jennifer Varni and seven great grandchildren.
