A service for Dorothy Mae Hawbaker was held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation was half an hour prior to the service. Pastor Cliff Haider provided words of comfort. Casket bearers were: Tony Hawbaker, Mike Hawbaker, Kevin Mowrer, Jason Grimes, Andy Hawbaker and Jason Holdorf. Mike Grimes was the musician. Hymns chosen were In The Garden and How Great Thou Art. Interment took place at the Brethren Cemetery in Dallas Center, IA. Following the service was a luncheon in the Hastings Funeral Home Lounge. Dorothy Mae Hawbaker was born December 21, 1919 on a farm in Granger, Iowa to Robert J. Jones and Lucy A. Weber Jones. She attended Dallas Center School and played basketball while in high school. She married Glenn E. Hawbaker on October 27, 1936 at the Brethren Church in Dallas Center, Iowa. They were blessed in marriage for 63 years before Glenn's death in 1999. They farmed most of their married life. They lived on a farm in the Grimes area where their son Robert Glenn was born and then their daughter Carol Jean was born. They lived there for 8 years, then moved to a farm near Yale, Iowa where a son Frederick (Rick) Lynn was born. Dorothy enjoyed working and helping out on the farm. They joined the Prairie Center Methodist Church of Yale. Dorothy was on the woman's church committee there. They then moved to the town of Perry, Iowa where they retired. Dorothy enjoyed babysitting for children of mother's that worked and then the many grandchildren she had. Glenn and Dorothy enjoyed making crafts and you could find them on weekends selling their crafts in area towns. They also did a lot of camping and fishing. They joined the Fairview Church of Perry and Dorothy was also involved in church committees. In 2008 Dorothy moved to Arkansas with her daughter and her husband. She enjoyed the warm weather down there. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Jones and his wife Maxine, sister Irene Carty and her husband Hobart, and niece Ruby Kuehl and her husband Harold. Dorothy is survived by her three children: Robert Hawbaker (Joy) of Bella Vista, AR, Carol Mowrer (Les) of Indianola, IA, and Frederick Hawbaker (Karen) of St. George, UT, six grandchildren: Tony Hawbaker (Barbara), Mike Hawbaker, Janene Grimes (Jason), Kevin Mowrer, Lisa Holdorf (Jason) and Andy Hawbaker (Susy), ten great-grandchildren: Christine Sweet, Michael Grimes, Jacob Mowrer, Amber Hawbaker, Ellie Holdorf, Magnoli Hawbaker, Sienna Hawbaker, Kayla Hawbaker, Cody Hawbaker, and Mandy Hawbaker, nine great-great-grandchildren: Madison, Parker, Lily, Jacoby, Lexi, and Emily, other relatives and many friends. www.hastingsfh.com
