Dorothy Stowell, 99, of Winterset passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Azria Health (West Bridge Care & Rehab) in Winterset. A visitation will be held 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel, with family receiving friends during this time. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Online condolences can be left at caldwellparrish.com. Dorothy Marie Hohertz Stowell, was born on August 27, 1920 to John and Christine Ehm Hohertz in Fontanelle, Iowa. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a teen. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1939 and married Ernest Stowell on December 28, 1940. To this union three children were born, Shirley, John and Roger. Ernie and Dorothy moved to Winterset in 1948 and managed the Madison County Auction for many years. Dorothy was a homemaker. She also assisted her husband at Madison County Auction and clerked for him at farm and furniture sales. She enjoyed playing organ and piano until her eyesight failed. She is survived by her children, Shirley Mobley of Sioux City and Roger Stowell of Des Moines; grandchildren, Kevin (Brenda) Mobley of Overland Park, KS and Kristi (Tom) Rathje of Seward, NE. Dorothy enjoyed being a great-grandma to Katie (Kaleb) Jensen, Spencer (Ashley) Mobley, Grant Rathje, Morgan Mobley, and Josie Rathje. She was also a great-great-grandma to Charlotte, Samuel and Audrey Jensen. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Lola Stowell of Greenfield, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine (Ehm) Hohertz; her husband, Ernest in 2002; her son, John in 2016; son-in-law, Earl Mobley; grandsons, Kent Mobley and Greg Stowell; two brothers, Arthur Hohertz and Don Hohertz; sister, Margaret Krueger; sisters-in-law, Helen Hohertz and Florence Hohertz; and brother-in-law, Bernard Krueger.
