Dorothy Belle Way, daughter of James Harold Buckmaster and Cecil B. McClellan Buckmaster, was born February 25, 1921 in Bayard, Iowa, and died February 9, 2011 at the Greene County Medical Center, Jefferson, Iowa, at the age of 89, 11 months, and 14 days. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 12, at Hastings Funeral Home, in Jefferson, Iowa. Pastor Robert McKnight, of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson, provided the words of comfort and sang, Good Night, Good Morning and Precious Lord, Take My Hand with Mrs. Laura McNight accompanying. Mrs. Karol Long, pianist provided the prelude and postlude. Her honorary casket bearers were Rocky Boehmke, Randy Boehmke, Joe Allen, Kelly Allen, Tige (Roger) Allen and Mona Gwin, the active casket bearers were Jim Way, Scot Way, Peter Way, Travis Way, John Way, Brent Way and Barry Way. Dorothy was buried on Monday, February 14, 2011 with her husband at Hillcrest West Lawn Cemetery, in Omaha, Nebraska. Dorothy graduated from Churdan High School. On October 7, 1940 Dorothy married Vernon C. Way at Grace Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. They were blessed with two sons, David and Terrance. The couple lived in the Churdan area and later moved to Kenyon, Minnesota. Dorothy had helped Vernon on the farm and was a 4-H Leader. In 1963, they moved to Nebraska where Dorothy worked in the accounting department for Boys Town and was a member of Royal Neighbors. After retirement, they moved back to Iowa in 1984, making their home in Panora. While living there she was a member of the Methodist Church, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was secretary for Congregate Meals. After Vernon died she moved to Jefferson to make her home. She enjoyed music, playing the piano, choir, knitting, reading, and needle work. In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Marvin and Howard Buckmaster, and two sisters Wilma Moore and Madonna Butler. She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her sons, David Way and wife Jeannie of Brownsdale, MN; Terry "Gus" Way and wife Cynthia of Springfield, NE; her grandchildren, Jim, Scot, Peter, Travis, John, Brent, and Barry Way; Rocky and Randy Boehmke; Joe, Kelly, and Tige (Roger) Allen; and Mona Gwin; 26 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; brothers Roy Buckmaster and wife Rachael of Boise, ID; Merlin Buckmaster and wife Barbara of Denver, CO; and sister Deloris Gadberry of Lanesboro, IA; Aunt Louise Miller of Guthrie Center, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. All were invited to join the family for lunch and Fellowship at the Uptown Caf following the service in Jefferson.
