Douglas Merlyn Schnoor was born on October 2, 1955, in Perry, Iowa, son of Merlyn Henry and Alice Joan (Vodenik) Schnoor. Doug's journey through life was a testament to his commitment to service to others, never to be content with idleness, and his love of doing the best job possible at all times. .
Doug grew up in Arion, IA and enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 18, serving his country with honor and pride as an Electronics Technician aboard the USS Midway and at the Island of Diego Garcia. He earned an associate degree in electronics and used his expertise in several job ventures including biomedical equipment and office machine repair. Doug's career led him to a fulfilling tenure as an Electronics Technician (ET) at the United States Post Office, where he proudly repaired and maintained all the equipment under his care until his retirement.
Doug was united in marriage to Barbara Kay Byers on August 3, 1979 and the two of them enjoyed 44 years of love and togetherness. The favorite part of their marriage are their sons; Brian Alexander and James Robert Schnoor. Doug had an impressive array of hobbies that brought joy to his life and the lives of those around him. He was a skilled handyman and had a passion for refinishing homes, engaging in woodworking, excelling at small engine repairs, and sharing his skills and knowledge to help his friends with their projects as well.
Doug died Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the age of 67 after a short battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; sons, Brian Alexander and James Robert Schnoor; sister, Evelyn Schnoor and her husband Skip Clemenson; as well as by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be remembered by many others to whom he was a father and grandfather figure and whom he loved dearly. Doug was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service for Doug will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory with visitation an hour prior.
