Benedict was born May 20, 1956 to Everett and Sylvia Benedict in Larimer, Iowa. He died on March 8, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from Panora High School in 1975. Shortly after that he met the love of his life Marvel Blackford. They were married on November 27, 1979. Doug adopted Amy Lou at that time. On December 30, 1980 they had their daughter Nancy. Doug worked for the Progressive Foundry for 22 years and most recently the Bagley Locker before retiring. Doug and Marvel own and have operated the Rockin Horse Lounge in Perry for the past ten years. They have lived in Bagley for the past 26 years. Doug enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He is preceded in death by his parents. His memory will live on in his family. He is survived by his wife, Marvel, of Bagley, daughters Amy Jabaay of Ames and Nancy Hurley of Perry; two grandsons, James Ross and Devin Ross; three grand-daughters, Cheyanne, Cadence and Chloe Hurley, ten brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles and many friends.
