Douglas Roy Farber, 56 of Earlham, Iowa passed away on June 17, 2023 at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa.
Doug was born in Winterset, Iowa to Alfred and Barbara (Thompson) Farber. Doug enjoyed being outdoors, square box Chevy trucks, riding dirt bikes, mushroom hunting, 4 wheeling, going to concerts, Nascar racing, gravel jamming, playing horseshoes, joking around with friends, teasing his nieces and nephews, listening to loud music and sleeping in. He attended Earlham High School where he graduated with the class of 1985. After graduation, Doug worked a variety of jobs including Macco, the railroad, Carey Drilling, and he worked on the pipeline in South Dakota. He was also proud to work for Voss Concrete and Voss Farms where he enjoyed running tractors and working the field.
Doug was diagnosed with a disease called inclusion body myopathy. He remained in his own home until August of 2022, he was hospitalized and told he could no longer live on his own. He moved to Panora with his brother Matt and sister in law Sherri. His final months were spent with his brother taking care of him. They enjoyed hanging out in the shop, taking rides, sitting by the woodburning stove, listening to music, telling stories and catching up on memories of years past.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara May and Alfred Roy Farber, and his dog, Bear Cub.
He is survived by his sister, Leslie (Matthew) Thompson of Earlham, brother Matthew (Sherri) Farber of Panora and sister, Melissa (Michael) Lindsey of Earlham, nephew, Kelly Pierce (Doni Jo) of Panora, niece, Jessica (Jeremy) Jones of Altoona, nephew, Kaleb Farber (Ellie) of Madrid, niece, Ashten (Jason) Mutchler of Bellevue NE, niece, Madisen Lindsey (Dustin) and niece ,Brenna Lindsey both of Earlham, along with many great nieces and nephews. He leaves many other relatives and friends and will be missed by all.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023 in the Earlham Cemetery. Please join the family at his brother Matt’s house for an informal gathering to celebrate his life. He wanted us all to eat, drink and enjoy the little things!
