Doyce Marvin Blomquist, 71 of Adel, IA, passed away suddenly on Wednesday December 25, 2019 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. A visitation will be held Friday January 3, 2020 from 4-7 p.m. at the Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – McCalley Chapel in Adel with a masonic service beginning at 7 p.m. A celebration of Doyce’s life will be Saturday January 4, 2020 from 1-4 p.m. at the Country Lane Lodge with a short service beginning at 1 p.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel. Doyce was born January 20, 1948 in Des Moines to Marvin and Mildred (Brower) Blomquist. He grew up on the family farm near Panther Creek. Doyce graduated from Adel High School in 1966 and continued his education graduating from Iowa Barber College. In July 1967, Doyce began his 52 ½ years, of barbering, at the same chair, at Jerry’s Barbershop in Waukee. He returned to the family farm where he farrowed pigs and continued barbering. Doyce belonged to the Dallas Center Delta Lodge and recently the Adel Masonic Lodge for 43 ½ years. He moved off the farm to town where he continued managing his duplex rentals. He believed in staying active and provided lawn care and snow removal to SCTOA townhomes in Adel. His biggest joys in his life were his two children, Julie and Jon. He was proud of their professional accomplishments and as parents to his three grandchildren. He had already set in motion the yearly family July trip to Breckenridge, CO. Doyce was a hard worker all his life. He was also taking time to travel, recently to Key West, the Kentucky Derby, follow the Lewis & Clark trail, AZ, FL, and fishing trips to Canada. More than the adventure, for Doyce, it was the time spent with dear friends and family that he treasured. He often said he grew up in the best of times. He was a generous man who always took the time to help anyone and who always found the best in everyone. Left to cherish his memory are his companion of sixteen years, Marge Westphal; children Julie (Owen) Hambrook of Henderson, NV; Jon (Andrea) Blomquist of Castle Rock, CO; stepchildren Scott Westphal of Adel; Holly (Mark) Westergaard of West Des Moines; grandchildren Jack, Hannah, Haley, Tony, Lillian, Nora, & Trey; sibling Genese (Ted) Sweeney of Parker, CO and nephew Dan (Diane) Sweeney, Quinn & Eva.; ex-wife Kathy Blomquist of Adel; and many cousins. Doyce was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be directed to his family for later distributions. Online condolences may be left at this site.
