Funeral services for Doyle William Onken "Whitey" was held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale, Iowa. Visitation was from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson, Iowa. Rev. Brian Licht of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll, Iowa provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were: Nicole Onken, Jessica Onken, Grace Kennedy Siglin, Kiernan Siglin and Sarah Kennedy. Casket bearers were: Mark Onken, Jeff Onken, Damian Tigges, Eli Tigges, Doug Hansman and Gary Nobiling. Ed Ludwig was the organist. Congregational Hymns were My Faith Looks Up To Thee and I Am But A Stranger Here. Interment & Military Rites were Honors United States Navy Reserves at Lidderdale Cemetery in Lidderdale, Iowa. Following the service at the cemetery was a luncheon at the church. Doyle William Onken "Whitey", son of Walter A. Onken and Mary Heuton Onken, was born February 1, 1941 in Carroll, Iowa and died December 24, 2014 at his home in Jamaica at the age of 73. Whitey went to Emmanuel Lutheran Parochial school until the eighth grade, then to Carroll school where he graduated. After high school he farmed until enlisting in the United States Navy from 1960 until 1964. On September 19, 1964 in Arcadia, Iowa Doyle and Karen Mae Nobiling were united in marriage. The couple lived in Jamaica, then near Yale and back to Jamaica for the past forty years. Whitey worked at Oscar Mayer in Perry for 25 years, Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson for 15 years and at Panorama Gardens for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and playing cards like pinochle. Whitey loved to talk. Doyle was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mary Onken, sister Lois Tigges (Larry), brother Lyle Onken (Beulah), mother and father-in-law Eva & Elmer Nobiling, sister-in-law Luetta Nobiling, and brother-in-laws Donnie Hanaman and David Nobiling (in infancy). Doyle is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karen, of Jamaica; son Darrell Onken (Tina) of Cambridge, IA; daughter LaDonna Kennedy (Randy) of Jamaica, four granddaughters Nicole Onken; Jessica Onken; Grace Kennedy Siglin (Colton); and Sarah Kennedy; one great-grandson Kiernan Siglin; brother Wally Onken (Madge) of Lidderdale, IA; brothers-in-law Lee Nobiling, of Council Bluffs; Clayton Nobiling of Denison and Dale Nobiling (Roxanne) of Council Bluffs; sisters-in-law Edna Hansman of Westside, IA and Ruth Stewart (Roy) of Finksburg, MD; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. The family respectfully requests memorials to the Jamaica Flower Garden
